Celebrating
Musical Excellence
in Young Musicians
Auditions are closed
Now in its second year, the Iba-Tenorio Scholarship Competition returns to celebrate and support the next generation of young musicians. Created to honor the legacy of Dr. Iba and Stefano Tenorio, this annual event provides an inspiring platform for young string and piano players to share their talent, pursue their passion, and connect through the universal language of music.
Dr. Iba, a beloved physician, professor, and pianist, spent decades balancing a distinguished medical career with his enduring love for classical music. After a long hiatus, he returned to the piano later in life, studying under acclaimed pianist Rufus Choi and performing in intimate recitals with great joy. It was a shared dream between Dr. Iba and Stefano Tenorio to create opportunities for young musicians to flourish—and this competition is the living expression of that vision.
Divided into two age divisions—13 and under (Junior), and 14–18 (Senior)—the competition is open to young string and piano performers who demonstrate musical promise, skill, and heart. The piano division will be held on September 28, followed by the strings division on October 5. Scholarship awards will be given to the top three performers in each division: Senior division prizes are $350 for first place, $250 for second, and $150 for third; Junior division prizes are $200 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third. All winners will be invited to perform in the Winners Recital at 6:00 PM on the evening of October 5.
