A pianist of exceptional depth and versatility, Tae Yeon Lim has been praised for her dynamic and expressive performances, which combine technical brilliance with deep musical insight. Originally from South Korea, her musical journey began at a young age when she was selected to perform as a soloist with the Sorisam Chamber Orchestra at just 11 years old, playing Mozart’s Concert Rondo. She soon gained recognition as a rising star, performing at the prestigious Chosun Journal Young Artist Debut Series at Sejong Arts Hall in Seoul and winning the Busan Duo-Piano Competition for her work as a collaborative pianist.
Lim’s training led her to the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied under the pioneering American pianist James Tocco, before earning her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from USC Thornton School of Music, mentored by Stewart Gordon. Her career has taken her across Asia, Europe, and the United States, with performances in Korea, China, Germany, Italy, and Austria, establishing her as an internationally acclaimed soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. One of her notable projects includes her world premiere recording of Joachim Raff’s Sonata for Piano and Cello (Op. 183), released on the British label Toccata Classics, expanding the recorded repertoire of an often-overlooked 19th-century composer.
In addition to her solo career, Lim is an active orchestral and chamber musician, frequently performing with ensembles across the U.S. She has appeared as a concerto soloist with orchestras in Beijing, Seoul, and Southern California, including the Los Angeles Sinfonietta and Vicente Chamber Orchestra, where she also serves as an Assistant Conductor.
